PowerWood – Improves visibility and reporting with SharePoint and Power Automate

PowerWood is a Western Red Cedar manufacturer, distributor and wholesaler, serving customers around the globe. Headquartered in Vancouver, PowerWood has over 20 years’ experience in the delivery of high-end western cedar products on time, on grade, and on budget.

Challenges

As offices around the country closed due to the pandemic, PowerWood faced a moment of its own. Labour-heavy, paper-based processes had long been a pain point. As staff moved to work from home, PowerWood looked to technology to modernize their workplace, improve communication and handoff, and enable effective collaboration. Of key importance was introducing automation into their purchasing, sales, and accounting processes.

The Runabout Tech Solution

With Runabout Technology as their IT partner, PowerWood saw an opportunity to implement a process management dashboard and document management system for sales and purchasing to increase the speed of approvals, increase auditability, and improve efficiency.

Runabout helped map the existing eight-stage process and translate it into a series of automations using Power Automate – a cloud-based system embedded in Office 365 with which you can create automated workflows – and SharePoint.

Client Results

– All orders, purchase orders, and receiving and their relevant documents are shown in a dashboard view.

– End-users see only the information that is pertinent to their role while automations automatically flag exceptions for review and create email alerts when processes are missing information or have missed deadlines.

– Sales information is now captured in a series of prebuilt forms to decrease human error and speed up the process.

The case for automation has been made. PowerWood’s team now has visibility over their own tasks as well as those of the rest of the team. This has sped up the approvals process and increased accountability.
